The Migrant Education Program supports educational programs for migratory children to reduce the impact of academic disruptions from repeated moves. We help ensure that these children are not penalized because of differences between states’ standards and requirements. We provide educational and supportive services so that each child receives the same opportunity to meet the academic content standards that all children are expected to meet and so that they overcome barriers and transition successfully into postsecondary education and employment.

IDENTIFICATION AND RECRUITMENT
First, we find them: Identifying and recruiting qualifying students to the migrant program is an important and required aspect of the migrant program. Extensive training and support for Family Liaisons is provided so that in Idaho we correctly identify those who qualify for the program and are able to provide appropriate services.
Definition: A migratory child is a child who is, or whose parent, spouse or guardian is, a migratory agricultural worker or a migratory fisher who, in the preceding 36 months, in order to accompany or join such parent, spouse, or guardian who is a migratory agricultural worker or a migratory fisher, has moved from one school district to another.
MIGRANT SERVICES
Then, we serve them: The migrant program provides services based needs identified through both state and local Comprehensive Needs Assessments and the state Service Delivery Plan.
Last, we report what we have done accurately: Accurate data reporting is done through Idaho’s Migrant Student Information System (MSIS). Local migrant staff record immunizations, services, summer school participation, and other information. This information is the basis for Idaho’s uploads to the national database Migrant Student Information Exchange (MSIX), state and local program evaluations, and other reports submitted by Idaho to the Office of Migrant Education.
